Calendar / Art Excursion

California Surf Museum and the Surfing Heritage & Cultural Center

Wednesday November 19, 2014 at 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for a surf-inspired trip along the coast to Oceanside and San Clemente where California beach culture has flourished since the 1930s. Embark on private tours of the California Surf Museum and Surfing Heritage & Cultural Center, both of which loaned many surfboards to SURF CRAFT – Design and the Culture of Board Riding. First, enjoy a docent-led tour of surfboard history, bodysurfing and Peter Spacek’s surfboard scrimshaw exhibits at CSM. Head north for a catered lunch at the historic Casa Romantica in San Clemente with special guest speaker Jim Kempton — CSM President and former editor of Surf Magazine. After lunch, enjoy a self-guided tour of 2.5 acres of gardens at Casa Romantica — where you can watch the surfers and take in stunning views from the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Make a final stop at the Surfing Heritage & Cultural Center for a docent-led tour of their extensive collection of historical surfboards and artifacts.

Ticket pricing includes: Transportation via chartered coach; refreshments on the bus and catered lunch; tax-deductible contributions to Mingei International Museum and Casa Romantica.
