FAMILY SUNDAY
Let’s make books, journals and photo albums!
Sunday, March 18, 2012
Noon - 4 pm
Location: Balboa Park
On the third Sunday of each month children and families can explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, win a prize for completing a treasure hunt and participate in other activities such as storytelling and hands-on crafts.
This month’s art project is book making, led by local artist Liza Alvarez. Create your own mini-tome with paper, stamps, ribbon, stickers and more.
Liza Alvarez is a photographer/artist who works primarily with the book structure as art, as her medium. She was born in New York City and Graduated with a BA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. She is an art teacher who shares her love of book making and bindings with her middle school students and through workshops and various events throughout San Diego. She has participated in two events at the Mingei Museum at Balboa Park, during family Sunday and getting ready for her third workshop. The first was on making little square books that could be used to write in or hold snapshots. The second one was on making fun holiday cards. The next Family Sunday coming up, she will be showing children and adults how to make fun, simple book structures to showcase vacation, birthday or any special photos you may want to display or give to someone. You can see some of her work and general musings about art and life on her blog: http://ameliandmati.blogspot.com/
