DAILY DOCENT-LED TOURS

Free with Museum Admission

Museum docents are available daily to guide groups through the Museum's changing exhibitions of folk art, craft and design. Tours begin at 2pm in the Museum's lobby, Tuesday through Sunday.

 

PRE-SCHEDULED DOCENT-LED TOURS

When booked in advance:
$5 rate for college and adult groups
Free admission for K-12th grade groups 

English and Spanish speaking docents are available daily to guide groups through Mingei International’s stunning exhibitions of folk art, craft and design. Hour-long tours are tailored to age levels, group interests and areas of study. All docent-led tours must be scheduled through the Education Department at least three weeks in advance. One adult chaperone for every ten students (18 and under) is required. 

Docents are available daily to lead impromptu tours and answer questions. Please call the day of your visit for docent availability.

 

PRE-SCHEDULED SELF-GUIDED TOURS

When booked in advance:
$5 rate for college and adult groups
Free admission for K-12th grade groups 

Enjoy a self-paced visit to Mingei International Museum with your group and experience our exhibitions through gallery, family and curriculum guides, videos, books and online resources. All self-guided group tours must be scheduled through the Education Department at least two weeks in advance to receive the discounted tour rate. One adult chaperone for every ten students (18 and under) is required.  


RESIDENTS FREE TUESDAY

Due to the volume of visitors on Residents Free Tuesday (3rd Tuesday of the month) the Museum does not offer pre-scheduled docent-led or self-guided tours on this day. Docents will be on hand to answer questions, but availability is not guaranteed. In addition, if the Museum is at capacity, groups may be asked to wait outside until space become available. One adult chaperone for every ten students (18 and under) is required.  


GENERAL TOUR OFFERINGS AND GUIDELINES

Pre-scheduled docent-led tours are available (pending availability) Tuesday through Friday: 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm, and Saturday and Sunday: 1pm.

A rate of $5 for college and adult groups and free admission for K-12th grade students is offered when scheduled in advance.

  • One adult chaperone for every ten students (18 and under) is required
  • Limited transportation funding is available for Title I schools
  • Tours are not available on Residents Free Tuesday (3rd Tuesday of each month)
  • The museum can only accommodate a maximum of 40 visitors in the museum at one time
  • Teachers are required to complete and submit a Student Tour Evaluation Form following their visit
