TRUNK SHOW

Robert Horby, interior designer and former owner of Circa a.d., will share his collection of folk art ceramics, textiles and carvings from Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Tibet, India and Central Asia. Of particular interest are pieces from the Hoi An Hoard, a collection of Ming period porcelains from a famous shipwreck off the coast of Vietnam.

Horby's passion for design and folk art started at a young age. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy, he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan where he began collecting Japanese folk art: tansu, hibachi, kimono, obi, ceramics and wood block prints. During the ‘90s, after leaving active duty, Horby opened Circa a.d. in Hillcrest, R and R design imports, a wholesale warehouse and showroom in Los Angeles, and a retail showroom in Culver City. His interior design projects have been featured in San Diego Home and Garden Magazine, San Diego Magazine and Better Homes and Garden Magazine. He is a veteran designer of the San Diego Showcase Houses. Horby closed Circa a.d in June 2009 but continues to assist clients with their collections and designing interiors and gardens.
