TRUNK SHOW

Indonesian Arts Center (IAC) is committed to the preservation and education of Indonesian artistic forms found throughout the archipelago.  Based in San Diego, IAC strives to explore and expose many different Indonesian artistic and musical traditions.  The organization facilitates performance and educational programs and markets the crafts of Indonesian artists so they can continue their art and preserve their cultural heritage.

The trunk show will feature:

  • Hand drawn batik with Lampungnese designs — a completely new art form since batik is traditionally from Java. Made by students from a nonprofit organization in Lampung, South Sumatra
  • Tapis (gold embroidery) table runners, wall hangings and hats  from Lampung
  • Sulam usus (hand sewn blouses and gowns) from Lampung. Each outfit takes approximately 6-8 people two months to complete
  • Hand drawn batik made by students from a nonprofit organization in Solo, Central Java
  • Batik silk scarves and clothing
  • Wayang golek (Javanese wooden puppets)
  • Balinese ikat
  • Placemats, small instruments, umbrellas, and other gift items from Bali
  • Handmade jewelry
