CONVERSATIONS ON BEAUTY: The Built Environment

Conversations on Beauty: Beauty for Change is a series of discussions that examine the meaning of beauty in people’s lives. The discussion on October 12 will explore beauty as an arbiter in the built environment from homes to workplaces, communities and hospitals. Panelists will consider such questions as, “What if beauty is an integral part of design; does it change what is built?”
The moderator, Dirk Sutro, is program promotion manager for UCSD’s music department, former host of The Lounge on KPBS-FM and author of two books on architecture. Panel members are Teddy Cruz, architect and professor in UCSD’s visual arts department; Andrew Spurlock, landscape architect; Julia Marciari-Alexander, Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs, The San Diego Museum of Art; James Hubbell, artist and humanitarian; and Richard Louv, journalist and author.
The discussion is presented in association with The San Diego Museum of Art, La Jolla’s Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, SDAI Museum of the Living Artist and the Museum of Photographic Arts.
