STUDENT WORKS FROM MINGEI INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM’S 2011–2012 ART OF THE PEOPLE—SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM

Each year, Mingei International Museum’s ART OF THE PEOPLE—School Outreach Program reaches over 500 third-grade students at four elementary schools in the San Diego Unified School District. Students work in their classrooms throughout the year with a Museum-trained Teaching Artist to create hands-on art projects inspired by the Museum’s exhibitions and collections. As presented in this exhibition, this year’s hands-on art experiences have included creating African American–style quilt squares inspired by the Museum’s 2011 exhibition BOLD EXPRESSIONS, as well as polymer clay beads, jewelry and key chains, as represented in the exhibition NEW JEWELRY IN A NEW MEDIUM.

Student works from Linda Vista and Spreckels Elementary will be on view April 14^th – June 3^rd, with a reception on may 17^th, 5:30 – 7pm.
Student works from Porter and Cherokee Point Elementary will be on view June 9^th – mid-July, with a student reception on July 12^th, 5:30 – 7pm.

OBRA DE LOS ESTUDIANTES DEL PROGRAMA DE VINCULACIÓN CON LAS ESCUELAS ARTE DE LA GENTE 2011–2012 DEL MINGEI INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM

Cada año, ARTE DE LA GENTE del Mingei International Museum — Programa de Vinculación con las Escuelas llega a más de 500 estudiantes de 3er Grado en cuatro escuelas primarias del Distrito Escolar de San Diego (San Diego Unified School District). Los estudiantes trabajan en sus salones de clase durante todo el año con un Artista Enseñante capacitado en el Museo para crear proyectos de arte, vivenciales y prácticos, que se inspiran en las exhibiciones y colecciones del Museo. Las experiencias vivenciales y prácticas que se presentan este año en la exhibición, incluyen la creación de cuadros para cobijas acolchadas estilo afro-americano inspirados por la exhibición BOLD EXPRESSIONS/EXPRESIONES ATREVIDAS que se presentó en el Museo en 2011 , así como cuentas de barro de polímero, joyería y llaveros, como los representados en la exhibición NEW JEWELRY IN A NEW MEDIUM/NUEVA JOYERÍA EN UN MEDIO NUEVO.
