ARTES DE MEXICO
Sep 26, 2002 - Jan 31, 2003
Curator: Martha W. Longenecker
Collection Source: Mingei International Museum
The exhibition was funded in part by the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture and the County of San Diego Community Enhancement Program. This four-month exhibition was Mingei International’s second collaboration with the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority as part of Lindbergh Field’s Cultural Exhibit Program.
ARTES DE MEXICO represented the rich variety of clay objects that continue to be skillfully created throughout Mexico – following a long tradition of making forms for use in daily life, for ceremonial purposes and for play.
The exhibition featured painted clay forms comprising a village scene and a bullfighting scene, including works by Candelario Medrano, and terra cotta works including figures by Teodora Blanco and a Tree of Life Candelabra.
