For the fourth year in a row Mingei International Museum is collaborating with University of Tijuana CUT to install a Day of the Dead Altar in the Museum, this year honoring Mexico’s great actor and comedian CANTINFLAS on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Cantinflas was described as Mexico’s Charlie Chaplin, while Charlie Chaplin, himself, called Cantinflas the world’s best comedian. He appeared in more than 50 films in Mexico and the U.S., earning the Golden Globe for his Passepartout to David Niven’s Phileas Fogg in the 1956 movie version of Around the World in 80 Days. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, handprints in Mexico’s Paseo de Luminarias and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mexican Academy of Film to name a few of his honors.
