This commemorative publication accompanies the exhibition is BETWEEN EAST AND WEST – Folk Art Treasures of Romania, a showcase of the richness of Romania’s related arts. Featuring costumes, textiles, architecture, works in wood, pottery and musical instruments, the exhibition expresses the rich cultural heritage of this land at the confluence of East and West. The region has been inhabited by many great civilizations, among them the Roman, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires. Within its borders today are  Romanians, Hungarians, Saxon Germans, Armenians, Jews and Roma adding variety and dimension to the art found there. 

This publication, made possible by a generous grand from Katalin Kádár Lynn, documents the exhibition of the same name organized and presented by Mingei International Museum, August 1, 2010-April 3, 2011.
