Mingei International Museum is near Downtown San Diego in the center of Balboa Park, on the Plaza de Panama. View map of Balboa Park.
Located just minutes from downtown San Diego, Balboa Park can be accessed from most major freeways. Driving and parking can be difficult during peak times or during major events; be sure to consult the balboapark.org Traffic Alerts page prior to your visit.
From January 2 through April 30, 2014, San Diego’s historic Cabrillo Bridge (which connects Laurel Street to Balboa Park) is undergoing seismic retrofitting.
Pedestrians can still easily visit Balboa Park West End during the retrofit. Alternate parking/transportation options are available in the west end during construction. Easy parking can be found on the west side of the bridge on Balboa Drive or Sixth Avenue, just a short walk across the iconic bridge towards Plaza de Panama and the historic views of the California Tower and Dome. Parking is also plentiful on the east side of Balboa Park near Park Boulevard.
A free tram system is now available to Park visitors. The vehicles depart from Tram Central, next to the large parking lots near Inspiration Point (east of Park Boulevard at Presidents Way). They operate daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., leave every 10 to 12 minutes, and follow a loop route, taking passengers to a drop-off station in the Plaza de Panama, just seconds from all the museums and theatres in Balboa Park West End.
Mingei International Museum is located at 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101.
