Located just minutes from downtown San Diego, Balboa Park can be accessed from most major freeways. Driving and parking can be difficult during peak times or during major events; be sure to consult the balboapark.org Traffic Alerts page prior to your visit.

A free tram system is now available to Park visitors. The vehicles depart from Tram Central, next to the large parking lots near Inspiration Point (east of Park Boulevard at Presidents Way). They operate daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., leave every 10 to 12 minutes, and follow a loop route, taking passengers to a drop-off station in the Plaza de Panama, just seconds from all the museums and theatres in Balboa Park West End.

Southbound from I-5
Take the 10th Avenue Exit off I-5. Turn left on “A” Street and left again on Park Blvd. Follow the signs to Balboa Park.

Northbound from I-5
Take the Pershing Drive/B Street exit off I-5 to Pershing Drive. Take Pershing and then turn left on Florida Drive. Turn left on Zoo Place to Park Blvd. Left on Park Blvd.

Southbound from Hwy 163
Take the Park Blvd. exit off Hwy 163. Turn left on Park Blvd. Follow the signs to Balboa Park

From the entrance to Balboa Park at Park Boulevard and Presidents Way: Turn right into Balboa Park at Presidents Way. Continue to the stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign. Continue past the Organ Pavilion, down the mall and around the fountain. Just ahead the Museum entrance is on your right in the House of Charm.

Public Parking lots are located at:

  • Alcazar lot behind the Museum – Follow street south from Museum entrance; make first right turn
  • Behind Organ Pavilion – Follow street south from the Museum entrance past the Organ Pavilion; turn left into lot

By city bus: Take the #7 from Broadway/ Downtown and ride directly to Presidents Way in Balboa Park.
